The emotionally disturbed, bi-polar, psychosomatic birthday cake thief struck again today.

We've been testing campus-wide and the school provides snacks to the students. We had regular classes after lunch and when E.M. (the thief) arrived, he asked if he could go to the office to get his confiscated mobile phone. I said no but the fucker went off to the office anyway. There's no point in arguing. He might strike someone and I'm really not in the mood to pay several grand for dental work. He shows up with a legit pass from one of the asst. principals and a box of Rice Krispy squares. Then he leaves class again and shows up with another box. And then another. Naturally, he lies to me saying that the asst. principal gave him the snacks. So when he went out for box #3, I left class and went to the storeroom where one of the APs keeps the food. I sneaked in and sure enough, E.M. was helping himself to another box of cereal squares. The second I saw him turn, I ducked out and ran for cover in an empty administrator's office. I sat out of the way of the door leaning forward so that E.M. wouldn't see me. I heard footsteps and even saw his black backpack through the window blinds. When the coast was clear, I sought help from the AP who gave him the pass and the special-ed dept chair and told them that he was stealing rice crispy squares by the box. The AP called out E.M. who was irate. When I went back to class, the teacher next door said when she went into my room, E.M. and a friend wrenched the boxes from my wastebasket and stuffed them behind my cabinet. We found dozens of cereal squares from E.M.'s backpack. Since he has so many issues about being hungry and stealing food, Child Protective Services was called in addition to E.M.'s mother. I'd found out at a meeting that E.M. lives with his brother who treats him more like a roomie than a child in need of care. I know his brother doesn't feed him, and I bet E.M. doesn't have the sense God gave a goat to forage for meals in the pantry.

At this point, I've had it with E.M. I hate to blame admin after that one AP was helpful today, but they're partly to blame for not punishing this kid. This little fucker knows that he's untouchable so he steals because he knows that he'll get a slap on the wrist. I know he's got mental problems, but I'm still amazed that he thinks that he's being smooth about stealing food and yet he betrays his lie that "it was given to him" by sneaking the boxes in his backpack so he won't get caught in the halls and cramming the boxes in a hiding spot. If the rice crispies were a legit gift, then there's no need to hide the evidence now is there? When me, my co-teacher, the AP, and E.M. were in the AP's office, I was tensing up half expecting to get punched from this kid. I'm just sick and tired of special treatment for special ed. He's ruining one of my best classes and a waste of flesh and blood. He'll grow up, do something heinous and get off scot-free because some damn bleeding heart will say that he doesn't respond well to punishment. Mental illness or not, something needs to be done until he stops stealing or disrespecting others. I'm sick of hippy-dippy compassion. He just walks all over people who do that. He needs to learn a very brutal lesson, or be locked away, or sent to the Alaskan tundra to be at the mercy of every meat-eating animal in the wild. Punching out students and bellowing at the principal is nothing. Try getting into a fight with a timber wolf or bellowing at a grizzly bear. They'll put him in his place.
