Head start on summer wear
Feb. 20th, 2012 09:37 pmThey say the rule is to buy seasonal clothing one season in advance. And since I've cut it close buying bathing suits in May/June, I went to Sports Authority for a new suit since I plan to buy another country club pool privilege pass for the summer.
I walked out of the store with not only a suit, but a new pair of hiking boots (my coworkers want to do White Sands soon) and Teva sandals. A Sunday Times coupon shaved some money off the boots, but like they say, what's the point of working my ass off if I don't buy stuff for myself on occasion?
And I took my folks to Red Lobster for a week-late Valentine's dinner. I ordered the Bar Harbor Bake. That thing is big enough for two. I brought half of it home and shirked when the server asked if we wanted dessert. The dish reminded me of those steam pots Joe's Crab Shack sells. They toss corn, crab legs, scallops, mussels, sausage into a pot and steam it. Only the Bar Harbor had linguini noodles in white wine sauce, three lobster tails, scallops, mussels, and shrimp. The Joe's pots are more Atkins (low carb) friendly since it's all meat and the Bar Harbor had pasta. I'd easily swap the noodles for more meat. The server was very attentive-- he always topped off our teas and threw in an extra sack of bread without us asking. So I tipped him a few extra bucks. I just hope Red Lobster isn't one of those shared tips restaurants. That guy deserves every penny for his service, and I'd be pissed to see part of or all of his tip go toward a slacker.
