Too tired to argue
Mar. 9th, 2012 12:34 amI went hiking/camping in the Franklin Mountains State Park with Amanda last week. (Pics, details, to come). We never made it to the top due to time issues and having to set up camp. I still had fun despite freezing my legs off overnight (thermal underwear, buy it).
I'm supposed to be in bed, but I've really neglected my blogs. I'm just swamped with papers to grade. Tomorrow's the nine weeks cut-off before report cards go out and to save my ass from high failure rates, I'm still plugging second chance research papers in the computer gradebook. I cut off those kids on Thursday explicitly saying that I can only grade so much by the 4:00 deadline. But I know some are going to still try to turn in work.
I suspect one of the exchange students is lying to me. This guy's gotten lazy...he's playing with a friend's cell phone and not doing some of his work in class. He barely turned in his research paper, claiming that he had it in on time. Ihacked checked his Noodle Tools account and he never completed plugging in his bibliography data. I have half a mind to hack his login/ school hard drive to check the times when he edited his paper to really verify whether or not he's bullshitting me, but besides being wrong, there's no time.
I got real frustrated with one boy who had NO concept of in-text citations. I was also upset because the other exchange student wanted to watch the "Kony 2012" video in that At-Risk class but this guy ate up my time so I could never play it. I hate breaking off good students like that. I was so mad that I felt what little muscles I have undulating under my skin from frustration trying not to scream at this guy. He also farts around in class which is the reason why he's struggling. I went to bitch at his soccer coach but the boy's been kicked off the team.
I was supposed to go hiking/camping at White Sands Saturday with more coworkers, but one of the history teachers going with us asked us to postpone it till April since it was supposed to be cold this weekend. I love climbing/sledding in the gypsum dunes to where I'd endure a bitter freeze, but I got out voted. The pack leader said she'd hold off till our Spring Break in April. At the same time, deep down beyond the disappointment, I'm too tired to argue. I did toy around with the idea of going by myself for a day hike or sliding in the dunes, but after getting a lesson plan ready based on Jack London's "To Build A Fire," that violates one of the most important rules-- always have a hiking partner.
